Inside the Mind of Takahiro Yoshihira: Passion, Persistence, and Powerful Music

Takahiro Yoshihira began his musical journey at the age of 15, inspired by the transformative power of music. Since then, he has steadily established himself as one of Japan’s most exciting electronic music exports, earning support from some of the industry’s biggest names, including David Guetta, Timmy Trumpet, Don Diablo, R3HAB, KSHMR, Showtek, and many more.

Known for blending heavy basslines, euphoric melodies, and high-energy productions, Takahiro has built a reputation across Mainstage, Trance, Melodic House & Techno, and more recently, Acid Trance. His tracks regularly chart on Beatport, while collaborations with artists such as C. Todd Nielsen have helped him reach audiences worldwide.

Having been named a Top 10 Wildcard Finalist in DJ Mag’s Miller SoundClash competition and performed in front of thousands during the Club Linx DJ Tour in China, Takahiro continues to push his sound forward with every release. We caught up with him to discuss his journey, studio setup, future plans, and advice for the next generation of producers.

How did you begin with music and DJing?

I started my journey in music and DJing when I was 15 years old. From the moment I discovered electronic dance music, I was fascinated by its energy and the way it could bring people together.

I spent countless hours listening to tracks, studying different artists, and learning the fundamentals of DJing. As my passion grew, I practiced every day, developing my own style and understanding how to create an emotional connection with an audience through music.

What started as a hobby quickly became a lifelong dedication. Since then, I have continued to evolve as an artist, always striving to create memorable experiences and share my love for music with people around the world.

Which labels and artists have you worked with throughout your career?

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of international artists and release music on respected labels across the electronic music scene.

Some of the labels I’ve worked with include Reason II Rise Music, DRAGON X, Exetra Records, Acid Dolphin, Dragon Records, Harmor Records, Alveda Music, Housesession Records, Tiger Records, Moon Records, Ensis Records, Vox Records, Pyro Records, Cubik Recordings, JANGO Music, Digital Empire Records, Kingside Recordings, Crystalized Records, and many others.

I’ve also collaborated with talented artists from around the world, including Kid Massive, HunterSynth, C. Todd Nielsen, Elle Vee, K.S.Y., Tali Rush, Daniel Chord, Mark Vox, Francesco Sparacello, Daxsen, Ricardo Reyna, Bodhi Jones, Simon Jackman, Mike Bello, MEIRLIN, Tai Ikezawa, Tommy Haks, Diego Antoine, and many more.

Every collaboration has helped shape my sound while allowing me to build valuable relationships across different countries, genres, and cultures.

Any new releases on the horizon?

Yes! I have some very exciting things in the works.

This year, I’m preparing to release three major projects that I believe will surprise a lot of people. While I can’t reveal all the details yet, these releases represent some of my most ambitious work to date and feature exciting collaborations alongside a fresh creative direction.

A lot of passion and dedication has gone into these projects, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with the world. All I can say for now is: stay tuned—there are three big releases coming this year.

Tell us about your studio setup.

My studio is built around a setup that combines reliability, sound quality, and creative flexibility.

I produce on a MacBook Pro running Logic Pro as my primary DAW. For audio conversion and monitoring, I use the Apogee Symphony Desktop, which provides exceptional clarity and detail throughout the production process.

My monitoring system includes Yamaha HS5 and Genelec 8341A studio monitors, allowing me to reference my mixes from different perspectives and ensure they translate well across various listening environments.

For MIDI control and composition, I use a Studiologic SL88 MK2. I also use an Apple Studio Display for workflow efficiency and OYAIDE cables throughout the studio to maintain a clean and reliable signal path.

Ultimately, my setup is designed to help me focus on creating powerful, emotional, and high-quality electronic music.

You’ve received support from some of the industry’s biggest names. What does that mean to you?

I’ve been fortunate to receive support from some of the biggest names in electronic music, including David Guetta, KSHMR, Blasterjaxx, Timmy Trumpet, Dannic, Ummet Ozcan, Don Diablo, Showtek, R3HAB, Mariana BO, MEDUZA, YVES V, Knife Party, Fedde Le Grand, and DJs from Mars.

Receiving support from these internationally recognized artists has been a huge honor. Their support has helped my music reach audiences around the world and continues to motivate me to push my sound to the next level.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days usually revolve around music and creativity.

I like to start by checking emails, listening to new releases, and staying up to date with developments in the electronic music scene. A large part of my day is spent in the studio working on productions, developing new ideas, refining tracks, and experimenting with sounds.

I also dedicate time to researching industry trends, connecting with artists and labels, and planning future projects. When I’m away from the studio, I enjoy recharging and finding inspiration in everyday life.

No matter how busy the day gets, music remains at the center of everything I do.

What sets DJing apart from other performing arts?

What makes DJing unique is the direct connection between the artist and the audience in real time.

Unlike many other performing arts, a DJ can read the energy of the crowd and instantly adapt the music to create a shared experience. DJing is about storytelling, emotion, and understanding the atmosphere of the moment.

Another unique aspect is its ability to unite people from different backgrounds, cultures, and languages through a universal language: music. For me, DJing is where technical skill, creativity, and human connection meet.

How has your musical taste evolved over the years?

My musical journey has evolved significantly over time.

When I first discovered electronic music, I was drawn to the energy of Big Room and House Music. As I explored further, I became fascinated by Progressive House and its ability to tell stories through atmosphere and progression.

I then discovered Trance and Psychedelic music, which introduced me to hypnotic melodies, immersive soundscapes, and deeper emotional expression.

Today, my primary focus is Acid Trance—a genre that perfectly combines powerful energy, hypnotic grooves, emotional depth, and the iconic acid sound that continues to inspire me.

Looking back, every genre I embraced along the way contributed to the artist I am today.

What has been your favorite DJing experience so far?

One of the most memorable experiences of my career was performing in China during the Club Linx DJ Tour, with shows in Hangzhou and Shanghai.

It was my first time performing at a truly large-scale event in front of more than 4,000 people. Walking onto the stage and seeing thousands of people gathered together was an unforgettable moment.

What made the experience truly special was the connection with the audience. Seeing people react to the music and celebrate together reminded me why I fell in love with DJing in the first place.

That tour remains one of the most emotional and rewarding experiences of my career.

What has been your biggest challenge as a DJ and producer?

One of the biggest challenges has been staying true to my artistic vision while continuing to evolve in an ever-changing music industry.

Electronic music trends move quickly, and there is always pressure to follow what’s popular. However, I’ve learned that long-term success comes from developing your own identity rather than simply chasing trends.

Another challenge is maintaining consistency. Building a career in music requires patience, discipline, and perseverance. Every release, performance, and collaboration is the result of years of dedication and continuous improvement.

Those challenges have ultimately helped me grow both creatively and personally.

What are your dreams and plans for the future?

My biggest goal is to continue growing as both a DJ and producer while sharing my music with audiences around the world.

I want to keep pushing the boundaries of my sound, especially within Acid Trance, and create music that leaves a lasting impact on listeners. One of my dreams is to release records that become timeless anthems and inspire future generations of artists and fans.

I also hope to perform at some of the world’s most iconic festivals and venues, continue touring internationally, and collaborate with talented artists from different backgrounds.

Most importantly, I want to keep enjoying the journey and creating music that people will remember long after the music stops.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

When I’m not in the studio, I enjoy exploring new music, discovering emerging artists, and staying connected to the latest developments in electronic music.

I also love traveling. Experiencing different cultures, meeting new people, and exploring new places often gives me fresh inspiration for my productions and performances.

Beyond music, I value time to recharge, spend time with friends, enjoy good food, and maintain a healthy balance between creativity and everyday life.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers?

Enter this industry with passion, but also with a realistic understanding of how challenging it can be.

The music industry is extremely competitive, and success requires much more than talent alone. It takes years of dedication, consistency, patience, and resilience.

There are no shortcuts. No secret strategy, no magic plugin, and no overnight success story can replace years of hard work.

I also believe that relationships are just as important as technical skills. Build genuine connections with artists, labels, and industry professionals. Collaborate, support each other, and focus on creating long-term professional relationships based on trust and respect.

Most importantly, be patient. There will be setbacks, rejections, and moments of doubt. What separates those who succeed from those who quit is the ability to keep moving forward despite the challenges.

Music is not a sprint—it’s a marathon. If you truly love what you do, stay persistent, keep learning, and trust the process. That’s how lasting careers are built.
